Luis Muñoz Marin
Luis Muñoz Marín airport shows the name of the first governor elected by the Puerto Rican people. Muñoz Marín, who was also a writer and senator, worked with the government of the United States to obtain a Constitution for Puerto Rico that would create favorable conditions for the island to achieve both economic and political progress.
This airport has been the center of Caribbean operations for airlines such as Pan Am, Trans Caribbean Airways, Eastern Air Lines and was, for a short period of time, a main airport for TWA. It was also the center of operations of the first international airline of Puerto Rico, Prinair, from its beginnings in 1966 until its disappearance in 1984. In 1986, American Airlines converted San Juan into one of its main airports in the Caribbean. At present, the airport hosts dozens of major airlines and is managed by Aerostar Airport Holdings LLC.
